Transforming the Use of Agricultural Premises under Urbanization Pressures: A Story from a Second-Tier Post-Socialist City

Diverse aspects of de-agrarianization, which is manifested by the cessation or significant reduction in agricultural activities, have been clearly visible at outskirts large cities Central Europe recent decades. The key drivers behind this process include increased pressures to cover peri-urban land new developments, inadequate protection land, ineffective implementation urban planning policies, low recognition importance agriculture, and overall changes people’s dietary habits. Urbanization undoubtedly belong factors intensifying as farmers are usually not able compete with other functions. This article focuses on more in-depth understanding driving forces de-agrarianization processes that specific post-socialist cities. As a case study, Brno, second-tier city Czech Republic, was selected.
